It’s versatile enough for basic manicures, pedicures, and light acrylic work. However, be aware that these machines tend to develop vibrations over time. When that happens, it’s a clear sign to upgrade, as vibrations can cause discomfort to clients. With everyday use, these machines typically last about a year before they start to wear out.

Some top-of-the-line models, like the Manipro, can cost up to $400, but their durability and stability are the same.

2. Desktop Stand vs. Portable E-File

• Desktop E-Files: As you start to take on more complex jobs and rely heavily on your e-file for tasks like removing bulk from acrylic or gel extensions, you’ll need a more powerful and stable machine. Desktop e-files typically come with a stand, making them easier to access and more aesthetically pleasing on your workstation. With my experience, the $60 portable e-file usually lasts me about a year, but a professional desktop model can go strong for up to four years. Over time, you may also want to consider separating your e-files—using a budget model for pedicures (since it’s less intensive) and a professional one for manicures and nail extensions.

3. Stability and Vibration Control
