Nail Technicians care for the skin and nails of the hands and feet, providing manicures, pedicures, hand and foot massages, skin care for the hands and feet, and nail repairs. They may work in spas, salons, or med-spas, assisting a podiatrist. With additional education, they can go on to become certified podologists or earn bachelor’s degrees in podology. This beginner-level course will give you both knowledge and hands-on practical experiences that you need to apply for licensure* as a nail technician in Connecticut or Massachusetts.
Please note that you will be expected to complete the required textbook reading and online/written assignments, as well as practice various nail application techniques outside of the scheduled class sessions. This course will teach students the foundational nail technician skills needed to earn the State of Connecticut Nail Technician license. This is a “clock hours” program with a strict attendance policy. Each student must satisfactorily complete 100 hours of training to earn a certificate of completion. There are no exceptions.
In This Course You'll Learn To:
- identify and recall nail diseases and disorders
- illustrate an understanding of chemistry and electricity as it relates to nail technology
- recall and apply standard infection control protocols
- apply nail applications including manicuring, pedicuring, massage, electric filing, nail tips and wraps, artificial nail enhancements and nail art
- identify and summarize business skills including ethical standards, professional communication, customer service, tracking sales, and managing a nail business
- illustrate hands-on nail applications by performing services on mannequin hands, classmates, as well as on the public in a supervised spa clinic setting.
